Melting furnaces

Leading-edge technology furnaces for aluminum casthouse

With its modern melting technology, Hertwich Engineering has influenced the industry in recent years. Melting furnaces from Hertwich are characterized by energy efficiency and a high metal yield. The key figures for "green" aluminium melting. The heating system is either based on gas or more ecological by electricity.

Hertwich Engineering products include innovations for single-chamber furnaces, multi-chamber furnaces and Universal Rotary Tilting Furnaces (URTFs), but also chip remelting plants and scrap charging machines.

Together with casting and heat treatment lines as well as quality inspection and sawing- packaging equipment, we offer an automated plant concept for the entire production process: the Compact Type Remelt Plant (CTRP) – from scrap to billet.

Benefits

  • Remelting of clean and contaminated scrap with paint, plastic and oil
  • Internal combustion and energy reclamation of organics – no after burner required!
  • Turnkey solutions with reliable, proven and sophisticated process control

Key Features

  • Integrated scrap preheating and gasification of organic compounds
  • Very low heating fuel consumption
  • Extremely low oxidation losses (metal losses)
  • Fully automated charging systems

Furnace Types

Ecomelt PS

The ECOMELT PS furnace type melts scrap efficiently and cost-effectively at high melting rates. It is built for scrap material like painted profiles with thermal break, baled litho sheets, UBC (used beverage cans), etc. containing up to 10 percent organic compounds.

Ecomelt PR

If you use loose scrap types with moderate organic contamination, the best option for you is a multi-chamber furnace with a preheat ramp – the ECOMELT PR furnace.

Single-chamber melting and casting furnaces

The furnace design of single-chamber melting and casting furnaces is relatively simple depending on the individual application. The rectangular ovens feature a front door across the entire furnace width. This ensures full access during charging and skimming. Furnaces are designed either stationary or with hydraulic tilting.

Chip remelting plants

These are pre-treatment and melting plants that are specifically designed for processing loose swarf and light-gauge scrap. The design is a result of extensive in-house R&D aimed at achieving outstanding cost-effectiveness and green operation.

Universal rotary tilting furnaces

The URTF type represents leading edge technology to sustainably contribute to environmentally sound yet economic scrap recycling. It is suitable for melting dross and low-grade scrap or material with a high iron content and designed for 3 different processes.

ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT

Hertwich supplies railbound skimming machines for all chamber type melting and holding furnaces for swift and proper de-drossing of the melt as well as cleaning of furnace bottom and sidewalls.

Charging machines

The efficiency of melting processes begins with good charging techniques. Automated charging machines give permanent reliable processes that minimizes cycle times.

Skimming Machines

Hertwich supplies railbound skimming machines for all chamber type melting and holding furnaces for swift and proper de-drossing of the melt as well as cleaning of furnace bottom and sidewalls.

Discharge/Transfer Pumps

Electromagnetic molten metal discharge pumps are a safe and very convenient means to tap melt from a stationary furnace into sows or crucibles or transfer melt via elevated launder systems to other furnaces. They provide an infinitely adjustable melt flow and can nearly drain furnaces completely, thereby avoiding to open a taphole.

Submerging Systems

Molten metal submerging systems are used to pull chips and small/light gauge scrap rapidly under the melt surface to avoid oxidation on atmosphere. The comprise electromagnetic inductors to induce vortex or linear vertical type melt flows in submergence vessels that generate the necessary downward and shear forces.

Furnace Technology

We research and develop for your success

Hertwich melting furnaces are characterized by energy efficiency and high metal yield. These are the key principles we apply to design Hertwich Ecomelt melting furnaces, yet we adapt the detail engineering to meet your specific requirements.
